If a casement crank spins freely, you can remove the handle and confirm whether the operator spindle is stripped - a 5/16-inch hex, visible with the handle off.

What we don’t recommend: removing a sash with a failed balance, adjusting multipoint door hardware, or cutting out a fogged IGU. The balance is under spring tension and can release unpredictably.
